Maestro Yuri Chuguyev

Yuri Chuguyev was born and grown up in the capital of Russia Moscow he studied in the well-known conservatories of Russian capital and according to its traditions obtained the highest qualifications and played in the best orchestras of his country before, and latter as solo percussionist of the Orchestra in Malaga. He passed the competitive examinations with outstanding and brilliant results.

Once in Spain, both his performances as soloist of orchestra and as concert performer of various percussion instruments have set a trend due to his special sensitivity and great virtuosity.

Maestro Yuri is undoubtedly a very respectable and well-known as soloist but he is also a very creative person with imagination and passion that have always been characteristic of Slavic musicians.

The fruit of this passion and imagination is his creation as composer.

Not only his creative and careful way of composing are admired and appreciated but also his originality, all of which place his roots in the formal shapes of the ancient Russia. His restless spirit and fantasy allow him to implement exceedingly original projects.

His musical compositions for percussion instruments are well-known as “A la rusa”, the ballet scenes. He quickly managed to capture the influence and the essence of Spanish music; fruit of this inspiration are works such as, for instance “Plaza de la Merced”.

His works are gaining success and his overflowing imagination results in the most original creations: the publication of a book of percussion for the anniversary of Andersen with texts, illustrations and above all, music with percussion instruments and a narrator. The sister of the Danish queen, princess Benedicta could listen to and enjoy the performance of this piece.

However, among all this vast quantity of works, “Ecumenicon” undoubtedly occupies a rather prominent position not only due to the brilliant idea and the opportunity to write a work of art of an ecumenical character but it also impresses with its force and imagination. This work was written “for choir of a combination of voices, a mezzo soloist, three percussionists and a speaker. This monumental work full of inspiration possesses a number of innovations in its sounds and effects assigned by human voices.

This work has been recognized as a fundamental piece of contemporary art and has been performed in countries situated even as far away as Mexico. As well it exists in the form of a very important sound recording.

Given the youth and enthusiasm of Maestro Yuri Chuguyev, his creating force and imagination will obviously continue to be fruitful in the future.
